Fall Roundup 2012

The temperature is working it's way up to the 90's today here in beautiful San Diego.
I decorated my house last month as if we were enjoying cooler Fall temperatures, but they have yet to show up and I'm tempted to turn on the air conditioner again.

I showed you my Fall mantle in a previous posts.

and my Fall entryway in the last post.

Here is the roundup of the rest of the house.
These are the cabinets you see when you come in the front door.
I'm not a big orange person, so I use it sparingly in my Halloween decor.
I group most of the orange I have here.

Here's how my DIY industrial shelves are decorated for Fall.
I am reusing the same Fall decor I've had for years, mostly white and metallics.
I still try and change it up a little each year by arranging things differently.

Here is how I used the blue pumpkins last year.

The crows are perching above the fireplace this year.

I painted the pumpkins blue and gold last year.

You can go here and check out how I did it and see other blogger's blue pumpkins that inspired me

Here is one of my velvet pumpkins surrounded by coral, shells, starfish and my painted gourds
I love a good cloche and put EVERYTHING in them.
If my dog would stay still I'd probably put her in a cloche, I love them.
Just kidding, Piper is too big to fit in a cloche.
A cloche makes everything a little more special.

Here are some of my velvet pumpkins that I made last year.
To see the tutorial I used go here.
I combined them with some starfish and put them in a cornucopia basket.

I added some of my magnetic skeleton and crystal drops to the candle holders.
To see how to make these go here.

I changed out my glass bubbles for Fall with miniature frosted pumpkins.

And a few to this glass vase.
I like to keep the beach out year round so the seahorse stays.

I hope you are enjoying cooler Fall weather where you live.
Thanks for checking it out.

Diving Into Blue

After I added my blue octopus over our family room fireplace and summerized the mantle I thought I was "done" with this room until fall.
While my family thinks the octopus is pretty cool, their one critique is that I needed to add more blue around the rest of the room.
Even my husband, who doesn't like change and always thinks our house is "fine" they way it is, (he doesn't get my need for constant change) commented the room needed more blue.
Off to the fabric store and Home Goods for a blue makeover.
I'm diving in head first.
Here's what I did.

I made some pillows.
The fabric feels almost like a beach blanket.  It's thick, textured, and sturdy.
Don't notice the brown couch the pillows are sitting on.
I don't like it, but it's comfy, in great shape, and paid for, so it's staying for now.
I have steered away from the Tuscan look, but some furniture pieces like this one still haunt my house.

I slip covered my ottomans with coordinating fabric.
I sewed the seams inside out for a more casual, beachy look.
I picked fabric that is very durable because my kids like to throw the pillows on the floor to watch TV and my husband likes to ball them up to stick under his legs when he stretches out on the couch.

I took the gray velvet slip cover off my other couch for now.
I don't think I showed you this Ralph Lauren jute rug I picked up at Home Goods for a steal a few months back.
It's very soft and comfortable for bare feet and floor lounging kids.
I like the texture it adds to the room.

Since the room has a very neutral color scheme,
I can change out the accessories whenever I get bored.
Pretty much any color works in this room.

My mom gave me a blue and white dog bed for Piper.
I think she likes it.

I picked up the blue glass float from Home Goods.
I found the Cabinet of Natural Curiosities book on clearance years ago at Anthropologie for $25.
I added my new pillows to my $10 Craig's List wicker chairs.

To see how I made my vertical succulent wall go here.

I changed out my glass bubbles with sand, coral, and shells.

No blue, more beach.

Piper follows me around where ever the photo shoot is happening.
Her brother and sister are grand champions.
Maybe she wants to be a supermodel  too.

More seashells and blue watering orbs were added to my candelier.

I used the left over pillow fabric and jute webbing to make a runner for the dresser behind my couch.
This dresser stores all my craft supplies.

I took the leftover glass from my DIY Restoration Hardware Rope Planetarium Chandelier and re purposed it as a mini green house.

I added blue ribbon to my DIY glass lamp shades.

I added some blue accessories to my DIY industrial shelves on the other side of the room.

The candles are from Home Goods. I already had the Fleur Di Ly's plaque and I just gave it a quick spray with blue paint.
The boxes were found in the clearance bins at Michael's.

Have you been diving into any new decor for your home?

Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Thanks for checking it out.

Velvet Pumpkins and a Thanksgiving Tablescape Preview

We're hosting Thanksgiving again this year and I'm so excited!
I love entertaining.

I posted earlier about my blue pumpkins and I showed you how I made these.

I've been drooling over these velvet pumpkins .  The originals are pricey, 3 for $84.
I tucked this picture away with plans on making some at a later date.

Then I found this great tutorial at the Lemonista and decided to make some for my
Thanksgiving table.

Mine are just a little different.  I couldn't find enough real pumpkin stems so I made my own out of clay.  I can't find my stem pictures, but it's very simple.  I shaped the stems out of air dry Crayola clay and spray painted the stems gold.  I notched all the tops of my stems to hold place cards.

Another change I made was to add a couple stitches from the center top of my pumpkins through the center of the bottom.  I like a flatter squished down pumpkin.
Just hot glue the clay stems on and that's it.

The small pumpkins will be used on my Thanksgiving table to hold place cards for each guest.
The extras will be used for the center piece.

I made 18 pumpkins for around $25.
If I had purchased these that would have cost me around $500.

I mixed in some real pumpkin stems and they received the same coat of spray paint.

I'll mix in some silver and gold foliage for some pumpkin glam.  I'm not sure if we will be eating inside or out this year?
We'll have to see if the weather cooperates.

Are you hosting Thanksgiving?
Are you whipping up any DIY creations for your tablescape this year?

I would love to see them!

Thanks for checking it out.
