Craig's List Wicker Chairs

While browsing my Craig's Pro app. on my iPhone I found this wicker chair.  It was originally posted for $40, but I got it for $10.

What's better than a mint condition wicker chair bought on Craig's List for $10?

Two for $20!
The story behind these chairs is that they were featured on the cover of San Diego Home and Garden Magazine.  I haven't been able to find that issue, so who knows if it's true?
I don't really care, I love them.

I just cleaned them because they had been sitting in a storage locker and they were dusty and dirty.  I washed the seat cushions in the washing machine and they came out perfect.  I washed the wicker with warm soapy water and an old tooth brush.
Just like I washed Cami's new bamboo chair.

They are really sturdy and comfortable.
I moved them into my old living room/new office.
I'll show you the changes going on in there in a later post.
I added one of my monogrammed pillows for extra comfort.  I made these pillows a couple years ago.  I made a stencil and painted the 'N' on duck cloth.  I used the stencil on all my out door pillows too.

When we entertain I pull the wicker chairs out the front door about 30 feet to our gazebo for extra cozy seating.

Do you have any great finds from Craig's List that you just love?
I would love to hear about them!

Thanks for checking it out.

Sophisticated Decor For A Horse Loving Girl

Cami's room makeover is in full swing.  The walls are painted and the concrete floors are done. I haven't moved her back in yet because I need the give the floor some time to cure.

She has been sleeping in the living room for the past 3 weeks. Not ideal, but we don't have a guest room for her to sleep in so there wasn't another option. The makeover has oozed all over the rest of the house, but it's almost done.

While waiting for the floor to cure, I've been working on some other projects for the room.  Cami has requested a horse theme.  I thought about painting a mural, but she's a pre-teen and I'm not sure she would out grow it by next year?    Here is my solution.  I found this add in one of my magazines.  I liked the bold color and the crisp white together.  No plaid, no over the top horse decor, just classic with a modern update.  Check out the painted herringbone floor, love!

I painted the room Benjamin Moore Poolside Blue.  I found a bamboo chair on Craigs List and re-did it for her room.  I also found a dresser and painted it.

Here is my latest project.
My incredibly stylish friend Wendy over at Simply Brookes posted about white lacquer antlers .  Here is a picture she took at Z Gallery from her blog .

See the white horse head?
This is the direction I'm going.

I have had these Breyer Horses since I was a kid.  My mom saved them and gave them to my my girls years ago when they were little.  They have been well "loved" and played with a ton.  My girls have grown out of them and don't play with them much these days.  They're in a box stored under the bed.
Being a saver (hoarder) has it's advantages.

I started with horses I already had (free is good) and purchased 1" Flush Mount Hangers and a can of Heirloom White spray paint.

I mounted the brackets (prongs facing down) on the back of the five horses (just screwed them into the plastic horse, sorry horsey) and spray painted them white.

I mounted the matching bracket on the wall (prongs facing up).
These will be over Cami's bed.
Make sure if you hang things above a bed that they are very secure.
We live in San Diego, earthquake country.

My first idea was to cut the horse down the mid-line and then mount it to the wall, but this way is an easier solution.  Here is the first horse mounted on the wall. I like the three dimensional look and the shadow the horse creates on the wall.

The flush mounts make it very easy to attach.
The horse side of the bracket just slides onto the wall side of the bracket.

Me Like!

More importantly,
Cami likes it!
(It's her room, not mine)

Here is a mirror I found on clearance at Home Goods
(Me trying to be the artsy photographer)

I still have more to do, but it's coming along.
Giddy Up!

Thanks for checking it out.

Craigs List Pro. I'm Addicted!

My husband got me an iPhone for our 16 anniversary this past April.  My old phone wouldn't charge anymore and I was due for an upgrade.  You might think this is a strange anniversary present, but it's what I wanted and needed.  We went together and picked it up one Sunday afternoon.  I'm not very "techy" and so far I only have four Apps.  I first heard about this App. on Thrifty Decor Chick and I'm addicted!  It's called Craigs Pro.

It's faster and easier to do searches on my iPhone using this App than it is using my computer. I've already bought two pieces of furniture using my phone.  I like it because you can view items on a photo wall and browse the pictures quickly.

I'm redoing my daughter Cami's room as part of her 11th Birthday present.  she needed a new dresser and I found this one.  The previous owner was asking $125, but she sold it to me for $75.  Solid wood with dove tail construction.  This is the "before" picture.  Me like!  I'll show you the after pictures in a later post.

I sold this armoire on Craig's List to make room for the new dresser.  We've had it since Casey was a baby.  It's perfect for little girl clothes, but not a 5'5" 11 year old.

I put these Container Store shelves inside for baby clothes.  I will miss this armoire, but it's going to a good home, a young family with a 2 year old little girl and another baby girl on the way.

I found this Bamboo chair and ottoman for Cami's room for $30 this past week.
The "after" turned out so good I'm trying to talk Cami out of it.  I like it right here in my family room, but it's for Cami.

This is the before.
I know, scary fabric from the 80's, but look past the dated fabric and check out the great lines of this chair.

I'll show you the "after" in a later post.

Do you shop and sell on Craig's List?  Or do prefer another source for great deals?

Thanks for checking it out.
