I'm Bringing In Green For The New Year

Happy 2013 everyone.

We've been busy skiing in Mammoth and getting back into the school groove.
I took this picture with my iPhone through the car window on the way home.

Here's my family at the top of the mountain.

While I don't mind cold and stark when I ski, my house seemed empty after I put away Christmas.

It needed living things to bring life back into it.

I shopped the house and the garden and added terrariums to my industrial shelves.

I hung two sconces I've had for years on either side of the gold mirror for some symmetry.

Green re-energizes me.

Free make overs are perfect for my January budget.

I hope the the first month of January has been fantastic for you!

Christmas Home Tour 2012

Merry Christmas everyone!
Just a few more shots of our home for the holidays.

The mantle.

I changed out the blue for Christmas with deer and fur pillows.
I picked up the deer pillows at Marshall's.
I draped fur throws I already had over my ottomans for a quick winter feel.

I hung faux wreaths with burlap ribbon above my family room windows.

Piper likes the fur.

I added crystals and my glass bubbles to some branches.

I used bottle brush trees, Epsom salts, and pearls.

I already showed you how I staged my industrial shelves.

Here is the living room/man cave.

Our entry gate.

The front door.

Merry Christmas!
We wish you a safe and Happy Christmas and Hanukkah.
                                  Thanks for checking it out.

Hostess Gift And A Pinterest Tutorial

I'm off to game night and a gift exchange with my girlfriends.
I wanted to bring a hostess gift to my friend Beth and this is what I came up with.

A Winterlicious Terrarium.
To see others I've made go here

I started with a glass container I already had and a bag of Epsom Salts from the grocery store.
You can find Epsom Salts in the first aid section.

I added a faux tree, a piece of driftwood, green moss, spray painted faux twigs, and a nest with a little bird.

I tried a picture taking technique I saw on Pinterest.

I hope she likes it!

It's 70 degrees and Christmas in San Diego

Hey there, today I wanted to show you the outside of my house and how it's decorated for Christmas.

I live in San Diego.
It's going to be 70 degrees today so bringing the "winter" to the outside of the house can be a challenge.
I know, poor me, I have to deal with beautiful warm winter weather.

My husband and I recently ripped out the ten year old Blue Point Junipers on either side of our front door.
The one on the right side of the door decided to twist crooked and go sun searching.
The lack of symmetry bugged me.
As much as we tried to stake it and straighten out, it just wasn't working.
It happens with landscaping, things periodically need to be ripped out.

Christmas 2011

This year I moved two of my urns and pedestals to either side of the front door.
I added faux greenery, sticks, and Christmas balls to the urns.

Symmetry achieved,
I like it.

I can change out the urns with each season.

I also painted my windows and the entry mirror with a DIY stencil for the third year in a row.
This year I used a simple deer head design.

I used water based craft paint to stencil the windows.
It's easy to scrub off after Christmas.

To see how I did my windows last here click here.

Christmas 2011

I painted the front windows too.

I added some faux wreaths to the windows and attached them with suction cups.

It may be warm here but we can pretend it's snowing.

Thanks for checking out.
